Russia continues escalation in Syria’s Idlib for second day

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Russian warplanes renewed on Monday airstrikes on areas held by Turkish-backed armed Syrian opposition factions, known as Syrian National Army (SNA), in the countryside of Idlib, northwest Syria.

This came after targeting Turkish-backed SNA posts in the countryside of Aleppo on Sunday.

Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria said, “The Russian air force targeted with several airstrikes a camp for training terrorists.”

As a result, 100 individuals were killed and injured, according to the center.

A military source from the opposition told North Press that Russian warplanes targeted with five airstrikes the vicinity of the towns of Al-Rami and Urum al-Jawz near Aleppo-Latakia Highway known as the M4 Highway, south of Idlib.

The airstrikes targeted agricultural land, causing material damage but no human causalities among civilians or military personnel, the source added.

The same source said that the villages and town of al-Fatterah, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhen, Kansafra, Urum al-Jawz, al-Rami, Nahleh, Maarbalit, San, Mjdlya, the outskirts of Arihah in Jabal al-Arba’in and Zawiya Mountain south of Idlib were subjected to intensive artillery and missiles shelling by the government forces stationed in Saraqib and Kafr Nabl.

The areas in the de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria continue to witness daily exchange of bombardment between the SNA factions and the government forces, despite being part of the ceasefire agreement signed between Russia and Turkey in March 2020, which stipulates a halt of all military actions in Idlib.
