IDP killed amid protests against dire security in Syria’s al-Bab
AL-BAB, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, unidentified attackers shot dead an individual in the city of al-Bab east of Aleppo, as protests were organized in the city against deteriorating security conditions.
An exclusive source told North Press the unidentified attackers, who were driving a car, shot at Haytham Akel, an IDP from the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, in front of the post office in the city center.
The targeting coincided with protests by residents of the city near al-Ra’i roundabout, voicing outrage against the deteriorating security the areas witnessed lately.
The protesters set tiers on fire and blocked all routes to the city, according to the source.
The protest came three days after the killing of the activist, Muhammad Abdullatif, nicknamed Abu Ghannoum and his wife by unknown individuals.
Abu Ghannoum, was working with Harakat Ahrar al-Sham Islamiyya faction, an exclusive source told North Press.
Since 2017, the city of al-Bab in the eastern countryside of Aleppo has been under the control of the Turkish-backed opposition factions.
Areas controlled by the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions witness, from time to time, offences against civilians amid inaction by institutions of the opposition Syrian Interim Government to stand up to such factions.
