ISIS former member killed in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Residents found on Sunday the body of an individual shot dead in the countryside of Daraa Governorate in southern Syria. 

A local source told North Press residents of the town of Dael in the countryside of Daraa found the body of a young man near the Station al-Asmy.”

The body belongs to Qussay al-Nabulsi, handcuffed and bearing signs of torture.  

The body bore traces of gunfire fired at close range and he was transported to the National Hospital in the town of Tafas, in the western countryside of Daraa, the source added.

Al-Nabulsi was a former member of the Islamic State (ISIS), and obtained a settlement card after the return of the Syrian government to Daraa in 2018.

After that he did not join any military or security parties.

Al-Nabulsi hails from Nafi’yah village in the Yarmouk River area, in the western countryside of Daraa, according to the source.

On Saturday, the residents found a corpse of on the side of Damascus-Daraa Highway, near the town of Saida in the eastern countryside of Daraa.

The victim, Shadi al-Karki, hails from the town of Tafas, in the western countryside of Daraa and works as an employee in a telephone exchange in the town.

On September 23, Mo’taz Abu Hamdan and his daughter were killed after being shot by unidentified attackers in the town of Tafas in the western countryside of Daraa.

Additionally, Abu Hamdan’s wife and son were injured and taken to National Hospital.  

Abu Hamdan is an Imam [an Islamic leadership position] in a mosque in Tafas, and he had worked in humanitarian aid and action during Syrian opposition factions’ control of Daraa.

Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with one or two daily assassinations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, not to mention the spread of thefts.

In 2021, Daraa Governorate went through an 80-day-seige. After that, a number of Daraa’s notables and government forces, with mediation of Russian officers, reached a ceasefire agreement on September 5, 2021, including handing over weapons and deploying governmental security posts in the towns of the governorate.
