8 ISIS militants, 2 PMF members killed in Iraq
ERBIL, KRI, Iraq (North Press) – On Sunday night, eight militants of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) and two others of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) were killed in battles that took place in Nineveh Governorate, western Iraq.
On September 13, Joint Iraqi forces launched a security operation, within the series of Operation Solid Will, to pursue ISIS sleeper cells in two axes in north and south of the city of Mosul, western Iraq.
The Iraqi Security Media Cell published a statement, detailing the security operation in Jazira Hatar in Nineveh Governorate.
The security cell said that Iraqi forces were able to besiege one of the ISIS “hideouts” in the “Lake Tharthar” area in Jazira Hatar.
During the operation in an attempt to storm the site, one of the ISIS militants blew himself up.
The Security Forces continued the operation and clashed with the ISIS militants who were inside the site.
As a result, eight ISIS militants were neutralized, according to the statement.
The Security cell noted that two PMF members were killed and others were injured during the operation.
The seventh phase of Operation Solid Will is taking place in the central and eastern regions of Iraq, specifically the separation between the governorates of Saladin and Diyala.
Solid Will is an operation launched by Iraqi forces, aiming at clearing vast lands of the country from the ISIS sleeper cells.
Despite the defeat of ISIS geographically, different areas in the center of Iraq, especially the disputed line between Erbil and Baghdad, periodically witness operations of ISIS targeting security posts and civilians in remote villages.
