Turkish forces shell 2 Assyrian villages north of Syria’s Hasakah

TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces shelled on Sunday two Assyrian villages in the countryside of Tel Tamr town, north of Hasakah Governorate, northeastern Syria.

A source in the Tel Tamr Military Council, affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), told North Press that the Turkish artillery shelled the villages of Tel Jemaah and Tel Keifji, north of Tel Tamr.

The shelling resulted in material damage in the residents properties, according to the source.

On Sunday morning, Turkish forces shelled the Assyrian village of Tel Tawil, west of Tel Tamr, causing material damage.

Tel Tamr, which has a population of about 25.000 and is 30 km away from the Syrian-Turkish border, is of strategic importance as it is a junction on the M4 Highway linking the Jazira region in northeast Syria to Aleppo governorate in northwest.

The town has been under constant attack by Turkish forces and their affiliated Syrian opposition factions, known as the Syrian National Army (SNA), for more than two years.
