Turkish shells target countryside of Syria’s Qamishli, Hasakah
QAMISHILI, Syria(North Press) – On Monday evening, several areas in the countryside of the cities of Qamishli and Hasakah, northeast Syria, underwent Turkish shelling, displacing a number of residents.
Eyewitnesses told North Press that at about 12:50 am, the first Turkish shell fell down on the village Tel Jernek, west of the town of Amuda, in the western countryside of Qamishli, and it expanded to hit the village of Hamdon in the same countryside.
The Turkish forces hit the area with eight shells , one of them fell down near an inhabited neighborhood on Derbasiyah-Amuda route.
As a result, residents of the targeted villages fled their houses, according to the eyewitnesses.
Residents of Tel Jernek have not yet returned to their homes, according to one of the residents.
Turkish artillery also shelled at 1:30 am on Monday the village of al-Ibrahimiya, affiliated with the town of Abu Rasin (Zirgan), north of Hasakah, according to a military source.
The source told North Press that villages were targeted with four Turkish shells, reporting no human causalities.
The shelling coincided with intensive fights of reconnaissance aircraft over the targeted areas.
The Turkish shelling comes amidst Turkish escalation in the villages on lines of contact in Syria.
