Handing ISIS terrorists to Iraq based on cooperation with SDF
ERBIL, KRI, Iraq (North Press) – Major General Tahsin al-Khafaji, spokesman for Iraq’s Joint Operation Command, revealed on Saturday details about receiving a new batch of militants of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) from Syria.
Earlier this day, the Joint Operations Command-JOC announced that Syria handed over 50 ISIS Iraqi terrorists, who were held in northeast Syria, to Iraq.
Al-Khafaji said, in a statement to Iraqi News Agency (INA), “The operation took place after great cooperation with Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).”
Al-Khafaji went further saying that this operation has been planned for a long time ago, and it is based on joint communications and work.
He pointed out that these militants are “wanted to security forces and some of them are serious criminals and leaders of ISIS, who are responsible for many terrorist operations.”
The process took place through Rabia (al-Ya’rubiyah) border crossing in Nineveh Governorate, the Security Media Cell announced without elaborating about when the operation occurred.
This is not the first operation between the two parties. In June, al-Khafaji told North Press that Iraq received from Syria 206 juveniles, who belong to the ISIS.
In the same month, the SDF handed over 50 members of ISIS to Iraq through the same border crossing, the Security Media Cell announced at the time.
