Iraq arrests six ISIS members
Erbil, KRI, Iraq (North Press) –Iraqi Intelligence Agency announced, Thursday, the arresting of six high-ranking members of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) in three governorates.
Iraq’s Federal Intelligence Investigation Agency, in a statement, said that one of the members was reached in al-Za’franiya, one of the largest cities in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, due to confession by one of the defendants.
An ambush was set and the ISIS member was arrested, the statement added.
Four ISIS members, said to be dangerous, were arrested in a separate operation that was initiated by squads of security agency in Kirkuk.
Later, database of the wanted members revealed that one of the four members had worked within an ISIS-affiliated faction called “Abu Hamza al-Muhajir camp”, according to the agency’s statement.
Another wanted individual was arrested under article 4 of terrorism act in Saladin Governorate, the statement read.
In April, 2021, security forces launched a large military campaign to chase ISIS sleeper cells in the orchards of nine villages in northeast Diyala Governorate.
It indicated that the aim of the operation was to open roads to prevent terrorist infiltration, as well as the exploitation of abandoned areas.
