Turkish soldier killed, 4 wounded in attack in Kurdistan region
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Turkish Ministry of Defense said on Monday that a Turkish soldier was killed and four others were wounded in an attack in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).
The ministry published pictures of the dead. Meanwhile, the Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu announced that five were killed as a result of a “terrorist attack” in northern Iraq.
On Wednesday, the Iraqi Government blamed Turkey for targeting a village in Zakho in KRI with artillery. The assault killed nine civilians and injured 23 others who were tourists from Iraq.
After the incident, Iraq submitted an official complaint to the UN Security Council regarding Turkey’s repeated violations of the county’s territorial integrity.
In April, Turkey launched operation “Claw Lock” in the KRI in northern Iraq against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). The area has seen armed conflict between Turkey and the PKK for years.
