Jordan continues to thwart drug smugglings coming from Syria
ERBIL, KRI, Iraq (North Press) – Jordanian army thwarted on Friday an attempt to smuggle drugs from Syria to Jordan.
The General Command of Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army Command said in a statement that the operation is a continuation for the efforts made by the Jordan Armed Forces in maintaining local and regional security.
The amount of drugs seized was 716.000 Captagon pills.
The Jordan News Agency Petra quoted a military source as saying, “In coordination with Jordan International Security Services and International Narcotics Control Board, the border guards dealt with armed groups that were pursuing smuggling in a professional manner and led by organizations backed by external parties.”
The statement did not mention any extra details about the abovementioned groups or the external parties.
Those groups tried to cross the Syrian-Jordanian border illegally, according to the source.
The Jordanian army announced that since the beginning of 2022, they have thwarted many infiltration and smuggling attempts on the Syrian-Jordanian border.
On May 22, four people were killed and others were wounded in a smuggling attempt from Syria to Jordan.
