ISIS claims responsibility for targeting SDF fighters in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Islamic State Organization (ISIS) claimed on Friday responsibility for targeting four fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the town of al- Busayrah east of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.

The ISIS-run newspaper al-Naba publicized that ISIS members shot dead two SDF fighters in al-Busayrah on Friday.

On Friday a military source of the SDF told North Press, “Unidentified attackers, who were riding a motorcycle, shot dead each of the 27-year-old Muhammad al-Saleh and the 30-year-old Ibrahim al-Besais near a public park in the center of the town.

The ISIS members targeted on Sunday an investigator called Ibrahim al-Tarman near al- Takihi in the town, according to al-Naba.

“Unidentified gunmen riding motorcycles shot dead the leader, Ibrahim al-Tarman, near the main road in the village of al-Takihi in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor,” a military source in the Asayish told North Press.

Al-Tarman was in charge of the checkpoints of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) in the central region in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, according to the source.

Also, the newspaper stressed that the ISIS members shot on Tuesday an SDF fighter in the village of Hawi Hisan Arabi in al-Busayrah, wounding him.

Recently, the countryside of Deir ez-Zor has witnessed an increase in killing cases against the SDF fighters, tribal leaders, civilians, and employees of the Autonomous Administration.

The countryside of Deir ez-Zor was an ISIS enclave which was liberated in 2019 by the SDF and the US-led Global Coalition. After that, a civil autonomous administration was formed to run the affairs of the region. This civil administration is affiliated with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).

The AANES was first formed in 2014 in the Kurdish-majority regions of Afrin, Kobani and Jazira in northern Syria following the withdrawal of the government forces. Later, it was expanded to Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor after the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) defeated ISIS militarily.
