DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Jordanian army thwarted on Friday an attempt to smuggle drugs from Syria to Jordan.
An official military source in the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army said that the Eastern military zone in association with security services and Anti-Narcotic Department thwarted an infiltration and smuggling attempt from Syria to Jordan.
The source added that during the application of the rules of engagement, the smugglers escaped into Syrian territory. After inspecting the area, the Jordanian forces found more quantities of drugs and transferred them to the competent authorities.
On January 27, the Jordanian army announced that 27 smugglers were killed while they were trying to cross the Jordanian border. Additionally, other 4 smugglers were killed in other separate smuggling operations, according to reports.
In mid-February, the Jordanian army intercepted large quantities of drugs and weapons in the eastern military zone on the Syrian-Jordanian border coming from Syrian lands.
The amount of drugs seized was 9,343,000 fenethylline tablets, 38,900 Tramadol tablets, 7,096 blocks of hashish, 199 PK machine guns, 63 pieces of AK-47, and two mechanisms.
