Attackers kill, wound government forces in Syrian Desert
HOMS, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, two members of the Syrian government forces were killed and two others were wounded in a missile attack in the outskirts of the Syrian Desert, east Syria.
With two missiles, unidentified gunmen targeted a military headquarters of the 17th Division of the government forces in the Syrian Desert, a military source of the government forces said.
The source, who preferred not to be named for security reasons, told North Press that two government members, who hailed from the city of Palmyra, east Syria, were killed and two others were wounded.
The wounded soldiers were transferred to al- Waer Military Hospital; they are in a very critical condition, according to a doctor in the hospital.
Eyewitnesses confirmed to North Press that the gunmen, who were driving a jeep, fled into the depth of the desert after the attack.
Iranian-backed militias control large areas of the Syrian Desert and the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which constitutes a source of concern as it witnesses intensive operations by the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) cells.
Two days ago, a member of the government forces was killed in the town of al-Mere’iyah in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
