In week….Syria’s north witnesses casualties, arrests by Turkish-backed factions
ALEPPO NORTHERN COUNTRYSIDE, Syria (North Press) – Violations in several areas run by Turkey and the Turkish-backed armed factions in the northern countryside of Aleppo, north Syria, have been continuing since early April amidst insecurity and chaos those areas witness.
On Wednesday, the Turkish-backed Sultan Murad Syrian opposition faction chopped down 375 olive trees that belong to two individuals from a village in Bulbul district in Afrin countryside, north of Aleppo.
Members of the Turkish-backed Jaysh al-Nukhba faction cut down 60 olive trees owned by residents of villages in Maabatli district in Afrin countryside, an exclusive source told North Press.
Since early April, the number of the chopped down olive trees by the Turkish-backed armed factions has come up to over 500.
Disputes and security chaos
The state of insecurity and the spread of chaos plus explosions and infighting between the factions continue to dominate the daily scene in the aforementioned areas.
On April 10, a VBIED exploded at a checkpoint belonged to the Syrian opposition factions at the entrance of al-Bab city in the eastern countryside of Aleppo leaving three wounded.
On Wednesday, fierce clashes broke out between two groups of the Turkish-backed opposition Hamza Division after a dispute over seizing houses belonged to some IDPs in the village of Basouta in Afrin countryside reporting no casualties.
On Monday , Muhammad al-Jazar, a member of the Turkish-backed faction Jaysh al-Islam, was critically wounded in front of his house in a neighborhood in Afrin city in a direct shooting incident by unidentified attackers.
A girl child was critically wounded in an indiscriminate shoot during a quarrel between two families in the city of Azaz in the northern countryside of Aleppo, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
A woman was wounded due to an indiscriminate gunshot while she was in her tent in Kuwait camp near the city of Afrin.
On April 9, fierce clashes took place between residents of a town north of Aleppo and Regiment 51 on the back of killing a young man by gunshot of members of the regiment.
The clashes wounded two civilians of the town.
On April 7, an old man and a woman from Bulbul district were seriously wounded in fierce clashes between Sham Legion and Hamza Division.
Two members were killed and three others were wounded on the back of an infighting between Glory Corps and Hamza Division, last week.
On Monday, a leader of the Turkish-backed faction of Levant Front (al-Jabha al-Shamiya) forced the Kurdish widow Sherin Aliko to marry him under the force of weapon and threats of imprisoning her in case she rejected.
Series of arrest
About 17 civilians from Afrin have been arrested, since early April, on charges of dealing with the Autonomous Administration previously, the Human Rights Organization-Afrin revealed.
The Afrin court affiliated with the Turkish-backed Military Police faction sentenced the 33-year-old Raghib Alo three years in prison on charges of intelligence contact and affiliation with the Kurdish Protection Units (YPG) and the Autonomous Administration in northeast Syria.
In July 2021, Alo was arrested by the Levant Front (al-Jabha al-Shamiya) faction and was handed over to the Turkish Intelligence to later be put in the Military Police faction’s prison in Afrin, the source added.
The Turkish intelligence arrested, in the current week, the 48-year-old Loqman Hassan, a resident of Rajo district, while on his way to repair his tractor in Afrin city without knowing the charges against him.
“Members of the Turkish-backed Samarqand faction arrested the 37-year-old lawyer, Muhammad Nouri, a resident of a village in Jindires district, after accusing him of previously doing Autonomous Administration compulsory military service,” an exclusive source told North Press.
In the same context, the Military Police faction arrested the 33-year-old Khalil Issa, a resident of a village in Jindires district, after accusing him of doing guard shifts when the Autonomous Administration was in control of the region.
On April 9, the Turkish-backed Military Police faction arrested the 55-year-old Hussein Qarah and his 60-year-old brother Hassan Qarah, from a village affiliated with Rajo district, over charges of participating in ceremonies of mourning martyrs, who died during the Turkish invasion of Afrin in 2018, a local source told North Press.
Members of the Turkish-backed faction of Mu’tasim Division attacked, on April 6, the so-called Abu Saleh Sefira, a member of al-Bobanna tribe and owner of a grocery in the city of Afrin, for demanding loans repayment.
On April 7, two villages in Sharan district were bombarded by the Turkish forces and the affiliated factions with heavy weapons, but no casualties were reported.
