Kobani security chief says Syrian state treats all equally
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) — Kobani Internal Security chief said on Tuesday that the Syrian state treats all sides equally after protests over attacks on families returning to Sere Kaniyeh.
Majd al-Din al-Sheikh told North Press that the situation in the area was now normal and that security personnel injured during the incidents had sustained minor injuries and were in good health.
He said the injured security personnel were members of the Asayish forces integrated into the Interior Ministry, adding that all had left hospitals.
The curfew was lifted early Tuesday morning, he said, while security checkpoints were reduced and conditions returned to normal.
The first phase of the return of families from Sere Kaniyeh, also known as Ras al-Ayn, began Monday, with the first convoy carrying more than 400 families.
The returning families were attacked upon arrival, prompting anger and widespread protests in Hasakah, Qamishli and Kobani, according to the report.
Al-Sheikh said security forces took the necessary measures after the attacks and ensuing incidents on Monday. He added that security forces arrested more than 18 people in Sere Kaniyeh.
He said security agencies dealt with both the attacks in Sere Kaniyeh and the incident in Kobani, reiterating that the Syrian state stands at an equal distance from all.
Al-Sheikh called for preventing similar incidents by raising community awareness and avoiding rumors and ill-considered reactions.
