Attempts to duplicate al-Sina’a events in Syria’s Hawl, Security Official
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – A high ranking security official of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said, on Tuesday, they have received intelligence indicating that the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) was attempting to duplicate al-Sina’a prison’s scenario in the Hawl Camp east of Hasakah.
On Monday, the camp witnessed a security alert following a rebellion by ISIS sleeper cells, a source told North Press.
The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) exchanged fire with the extremist ISIS members who used medium weapons in the attack.
The received intelligence predicted a plan attempting to “create disturbance“ in the Hawl camp, said Ali Hajo, the co-chair of the Interior Board in AANES without mentioning any details.
Hajo told North Press that the camp has been witnessing some moves by ISIS sleeper cells to make a security breach. These moves resemble those that took place months before al-Sina’a prison attack in Hasakah city in January.
The security services are taking all the needed security measures to prevent an outburst in the camp along with monitoring the sleeper cells’ activities, according to him.
Hajo went further saying, “Huge efforts should be paid to keep the camp secure, as it requires an international intervention from those concerned countries that have their nationals of ISIS detainees and members in the camp.”
Hawl Camp is also known as a “ticking time bomb” due to the presence of extremists of ISIS wives and children, and tens of thousands of their supporters in a camp sometimes described as “the most dangerous camp in the world”.
The Hawl Camp is a house for about 15,300 families in total of 56,000 individuals including 2,423 families of ISIS detained or killed militants, who hail from over than 60 countries.
