Syrian government discloses oil losses

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – In a meeting yesterday to assess last year’s achievements, the Syrian Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resourcesdisclosed the total toll of losses in the oil sector.   

The total losses in the oil sector amounted to about $100.5 billion since the beginning of the Syrian war, the ministry announced.

It added that oil production over 2021 reached around 31.4 million barrels, with an average daily production of 85.9 thousand barrels, of which 16 thousand barrels get to the refineries per day.   

The ministry noted that natural gas production amounted to about 4.5 billion cubic meters, with 12.5 million cubic meters as a daily production rate, of which 12 million cubic meters per day was from clean gas.  

79% of the natural gas was delivered to the Ministry of Electricity, 6% to the Ministry of Industry, and 15% to the Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources.  

The ministry said that in 2021, the average of the quantities of natural gas delivered to the Ministry of Electricity on a daily basis amounted to 9 million cubic meters, including the Suweidiyah plant.  

The total production of household gas reached 118 thousand tons (48 thousand tons refined and 70 thousand tons of gas plants, equivalent to 323 tons per day. About 5.7 million tons of oil productions were refined in Homs and Banias refineries. 

The refineries’ production in 2021 amounted to 944 thousand tons of premium gasoline and 11 thousand tons of regular gasoline, 1.519 million tons of diesel, 2.734 million tons of fuel, and 77 thousand tons of asphalt in addition to production of 1.1 million tons of phosphate and 113 thousand tons of salt, according to the ministry.

Work is underway to complete the well in Zamlat al-Mahr 1 Well which was discovered in late 2021, according to the Ministry.  

In mid-January, the Syrian Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources announced the end of drilling work in the Zamlat al-Mahr well 1 in Palmyra, in the countryside of Homs.   

The Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Bassam Tohme, said digging in the aforementioned field ended with a new gas discovery after the success of the tests for the gas-bearing range.
