People in Syria’s Aleppo protest against repeated power outage
NORTHERN ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Dozens of people took to the streets of Jarablus city, east of Aleppo, north Syria, to protest against the repeated cut of power provision by a Turkish power company that monopolizes electricity.
The protest was staged in front of the company’s building in the city, a special source told North Press.
The protesters condemned the increase of rationing hours which directly affected their daily lives and hampered their work because of the long and recurrent power cuts across the city.
The cut lasts for about nine hours every day, the source added.
Many families depend mainly on electricity for winter heating as fuel prices are high, the source noted.
Since the beginning of January, several public protests have been staged in cities and towns in the northern and the eastern countryside of Aleppo against Turkey and the pro-Turkey councils due to the rise of electricity financial subscription.
In 2108, the pro-Turkey local council granted the Turkish company AK Energy authorization to invest in the electricity sector in the region by stretching high voltage wires from Bab al-Salamah crossing point in Sejjo area in Aleppo northern counrtyside.
The city of Jarablus, east of Aleppo, has been under the control of Turkish-backed armed groups since 2017.
