Syria’s Qamishli witnesses security alert and curfew
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the city of Qamishli, northeast Syria, witnessed a security alert in anticipation of the presence of ISIS sleeper cells in the city, amid a curfew imposed by the Interior Board of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
The security alert comes in tandem with the developments taking place in the vicinity of al-Sina’a Prison in Hasakah’s Guweiran neighborhood.
Yesterday, the Interior Board announced the imposition of a complete curfew on Hasakah region for seven days, starting from today.
A partial curfew was also imposed on towns and cities of Hasakah, starting from six in the evening until six in the morning. The movement between cities is prohibited throughout the lockdown period, to prevent the infiltration of ISIS cells to other cities in the Jazira region.
The curfew comes due to the events taking place in the vicinity of al-Sina’a prison in Guweiran neighborhood when ISIS sleeper cells attacked the prison with the aim of taking out ISIS prisoners from the prison.
Since January 20, the vicinity of al-Sina’a Prison in the city of Hasakah has been witnessing sporadic clashes between the SDF and ISIS cells following an attack launched by the ISIS cells in an attempt to achieve a successful mass escape of the detainees.
300 militants of ISIS, who had participated in the insurrection of al-Sina’a Prison in Hasakah’s Guweiran neighborhood, surrendered to SDF, the media center of the SDF said on Monday.
