AANES establishes Board of Agriculture and Irrigation in NE Syria
Syria-Raqqa (North Press) – The General Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) established the Board of Agriculture and Irrigation, on Wednesday.
During the annual meeting of the AANES’ General Council that was held in Raqqa city, north Syria, the decision to separate the Agriculture and Irrigation Board from the Economy Board was issued.
“The decision came to reduce the heavy tasks of the Agriculture and Economy Board previously,” the co-chair of the Economy Board, Salman Barudo, said.
“Several institutions, industrial and agricultural sectors are affiliated with the Agriculture and Economy Board and all those sectors cannot be linked to only one board,” Barudo added.
He told North Press, “Areas of northeast Syria are agricultural and should be given high importance as it is directly linked to residents’ food security.”
The AANES Executive Council consists of 11 boards, specialized in administrating, economy and society sectors, the last one of which was the Board of Agriculture and Irrigation.
“The AANES seeks to establish an integrated economic sector to achieve self-sufficiency in 2022,” Barudo said on Monday.
Barudo added, “The agricultural sources are present and the AANES have to get benefit of them and establish an economic sector allows the maximum and optimal use of all the resources in the region.”
