RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – During 2021, 209 schools out of 818 have been renovated in areas in northeast Syria whereas 209 are still partially destroyed and 400 are completely destroyed due to battles with the Islamic State Organization (ISIS), an official of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said on Wednesday.
The AANES Education Board started the renovation works of schools after eliminating ISIS from areas in northeast Syria.
Since the elimination of ISIS, 4356 schools were renovated to receive students while the number of the schools that were not harmed was little, the co-chair of the Education Board, Rajab al-Mosharref, said.
During 2021, the Education Board renovated 209 schools and built eight others in all areas in northeast Syria, al-Musharref told North Press.
“Nevertheless, the number of the schools that were partially damaged is 209, and those that were completely damaged is 400,” he added.
In 2022, the board will follow new strategies including “activating those schools that are partially damaged,” he noted.
In the academic year of 2021/2022, the number of students has reached 865,000 distributed to schools throughout Syria’s northeast.
The Education Board secures teachers and the curriculum while Social Affairs and Labor Board provides equipment for a proper place for the children of camps to learn, according to the co-chair of the Education Board.
