Children in IDP camp in Syria’s Raqqa remain without winter clothes

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, an official in Tel al-Samen IDP camp north of Raqqa, northern Syria, said thousands of children have remained without winter clothes so far.

6,000 IDPs including 1,200 families, mostly children, women and elderly people live in Tel al-Samen camp.

“3,666 children in the camp have not received winter clothes,” Ali al-Ebbo, an official in charge of the services department in the camp said.

“The organizations functioning in the region have not delivered any support this year yet,” he added.

“Several tents need to be renovated. The IDPs, mostly the elderly and the children, need blankets before temperatures drop more,” al-Ebbo noted.

In regard to the closure of Tel Kocher (al-Ya’rubiyah) crossing border, al-Ebbo pointed that the closure has effected the services provided to the IDPs in a negative way.

Tel Kocher (al-Ya’rubiyah) crossing, eastern Syria, has been closed to UN humanitarian access to northeast Syria since 2020 due to a veto used by Russia and China, which exacerbated the challenges facing the region.

In late November, Sheikhmous Ahmad, co-chair of the Office of Refugees and Displaced Affairs of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said the camps in northeast Syria have a tragic situation and experience acute shortage of humanitarian assistance due to the closure of border crossings and the limitedness of the AANES.
