Government forces’ members killed in ISIS attack in Syria’s Badia
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Five members of the National Defense Forces (NDF) of the Syrian government forces were killed on Thursday in an attack by the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) in the southern desert of Homs, central Syria.
North Press reported a military source of the government forces as saying “ISIS militants targeted a military vehicle for the NDF near the T3 station in the Badia of Homs, central Syria, with missiles. Five members were killed and their car was burned down.”
The attackers, who were riding motorcycles, ran away after carrying out the attack towards the depth of the desert, the source, who preferred not to be named, added.
Yesterday, the government forces and the Iranian-backed militias formed groups to redeploy in the Syrian Badia and set up military points in tandem with conducting several raids by warplanes in the Badia, according to a source of the Iranian-backed Hashemiyon faction.
Despite the combing campaigns carried out by the government forces, the Syrian Badia, recently, has been witnessing continuously attacks by ISIS sleeper cells targeting the government forces’ sites, and military points of the Iran-backed factions.
Two days ago, ISIS launched a violent attack on a military point of the Iranian-backed Liwa Fatemiyoun near Dabiyat oil field south of the town of Sukhnah in the eastern countryside of Homs, killing five members and wounding eight.
Large areas of the Syrian Badia are controlled by the Iranian-backed militias, and they have recently witnessed several confrontations, the fiercest between ISIS and government forces along with Iranian-backed factions.
Iranian-backed factions and government forces have controlled large areas of Deir ez-Zor since the expulsion of ISIS militants in late 2017.
