Security operations launched against ISIS in Iraq’s Kirkuk and Diyala
ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – Two security operations were launched, on Wednesday, in the Iraqi provinces of Kirkuk and Diyala, to pursue sleeper cells of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) after its bloody attacks in late November.
“Diyala Operations’ Command, through the First Division and the Diyala Police Directorate, has started a security operation to inspect a number of areas and villages within the aforementioned areas,” the Iraqi Security Media Cell said in a statement.
The joint operations command units in Kirkuk also began an inspection and clearing operation in a number of areas and villages in the province.
These operations, according to the statement, aim to pursue ISIS elements in order to strengthen security and stability.
Last week, the Iraqi forces, with the participation of the Peshmerga, carried out a series of operations in Kirkuk and Makhmour, south of Erbil, and the Garmiyan areas between Diyala and Sulaymaniyah.
Late last month, those areas were subjected to a series of attacks launched by the ISIS, in which at least 25 members of the Peshmerga and civilians were killed.
