Iraqi air force raids five ISIS positions
ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – On Saturday, the Iraqi Security Media Cell announced targeting five Islamic State Organization (ISIS) positions in the governorate of Saladin, in the center of Iraq.
“Iraqi Air Force conducted seven airstrikes with F-16 fighting falcon on ISIS hideouts in order to provide aerial support to the soldiers on the ground,” the Security Media Cell said in a statement.
Prior to the airstrikes, Counter-Terrorism forces carried out a security operation in Meteibijah area, east of Saladin.
Iraqi forces, including the Peshmerga, ramped up anti-ISIS operations after ISIS implemented a series of attacks on southern governorates in Kurdistan Region and in central and southern areas in Iraq where numbers of civilians and soldiers of Peshmerga and Iraqi forces lost their lives.
“Six terrorists wanted by the Iraqi prosecution in accordance with Article 4 of the Iraqi Penal Code were arrested in Nineveh governorate,” the Security Media Cell announced on Saturday.
Last week, joint security operations between Iraqi and Peshmerga forces started in the disputed territories between Baghdad and Erbil. Mustafa al-Kadhimi commanded the operation since he is the General Command of the Armed Forces.
The disputed areas between Baghdad and Erbil stretch from Khanaqin area in the east to Shingal (Sinjar) area in the west.
Recently, ISIS has carried out many attacks in the disputed areas where a security gap ill-coordination between forces exist, monitors say.
