Symposium in Syria’s Kobani to discuss involving intellectuals in decisions-making
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – Intellectuals and politicians in Kobani region and its countryside, northern Syria, discussed the role of the local residents’ opinions in decision-making in northeastern Syria and the Syrian issue in general.
This came in a symposium organized by the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) entitled “The Intellectual and the Prospects for the Political Solution in Syria”, where about 100 personalities from residents, intellectuals and politicians in the city of Kobani and its countryside were attended.
The seminar included two parts, the first focused on the political situation in Syria, presented by Amina Omar, SDC co-chair, and the second on the intellectual and the prospects for a political solution in Syria, which included the participation, opinions and suggestions of the participants.
Local and public interest
Khalil al-Lafi, one of the participants in the symposium from the town of Sirrin, said the path to a political solution lies in the compatibility among the Syrian people in all areas of influence, whether in the Autonomous Administration held areas in northeast Syria, the opposition in northwest, or the government-held areas, and that this will not prevent a positive role for the international community.
Al-Lafi pointed out that any political solution in the region must take into account the specificity of society in north and east Syria, and the specificity and role of the Syrian Democratic Forces, which fought the terrorism represented by ISIS in the region.
Authorities marginalized the intellectuals
Farhan Hajj Issa, head of the Euphrates Regional Council for the Future Syria Party, said the intellectuals are the best in making national decisions, and they should play their role in providing guidance and being close to their community.
He stated that the Autonomous Administration, despite being a new creative case, has not succeeded in attracting all the intellectuals present in the decision-making arena due to the accumulations of the previous regimes.
Khalil Abdi, a member of the Presidential Council of the SDC said the aim of holding these dialogue seminars is to listen to the opinions of all segments of the people, including independents, intellectuals and politicians, about the prospects for reaching a political solution in Syria.
He added that Syrian intellectuals were divided into several orientations during the ten-year-Syrian war, some of whom became opposition, some became intellectually extremist, and some became loyal to the regime, in addition to those who emigrated from the country.
He pointed out that the SDC is trying, through these seminars, to attract the intellectuals to play their role in the political solution in the region.
