QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The US Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) updated the sanctions list to include more individuals and entities in Syria, Iran and Uganda.
The OFAS’ Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List (SDN), said it targets individuals and entities tied to human rights abuses and violent suppression of peaceful protesters in Iran and deadly chemical weapons attacks against civilians in Syria.
In Syria, Muhammad Yousef al-Hasouri and Brigadier General Kamal Ali Hasan, two senior Air Force officers were blacklisted for being responsible for using chemical weapons attacks against the vulnerable civilians.
In Iran, Hassan Karami, commander of LEF Special Units, Seyed Reza Mousawi Azami, commander of a brigade of the LEF Special Units and Gholamreza Soleimani, commander of the Basij security source, and other individuals were blacklisted for being responsible of committing serious human rights abuses against Iranian citizens.
“Treasury will continue to defend against authoritarianism, promoting accountability for violent repression of people,” Andrea Gacki, director of OFAC said.
“As a result of the action, all property and interests in property of the persons designated above that are in the United States or in the possession or control of US persons are blocked and must be reported to OFAC,” the US Treasury said in a statement.
