Mutual shelling between government and opposition escalates in Syria’s northwest
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – The de-escalation zone in northwest Syria witnessed military escalation and mutual shelling between the Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed opposition factions on Monday.
Al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room managed to repel an infiltration attempt by the government forces near the village of Bala, west of Aleppo, North Press reported military sources of the opposition.
The infiltration attempt coincided with the escalation of al-Fateh factions’ artillery and missile attacks on the villages and towns of Hazarin, Dar al-Kabira, Hantoutin and Milaja, south of Idlib, the sources said.
The opposition factions managed to destroy a military vehicle near the town of Dadikh, east of Idlib, according to the sources.
The government forces’ sites in the towns of Urum al-Kubra, Urum al-Sughra, the Regiment 46, and the village of Bala, were bombed by al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room.
North Press, however, could not check the information through other sources.
In the same context, the government forces bombed the eastern outskirts of Idlib city and the outskirts of the village of Qaminas. The opposition factions’ sites in the villages and towns of Fatterah, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhen, Kansafra, al-Bara, and Binin in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, were similarly bombed, according to field sources.
The government forces bombed the sites of opposition factions in the villages and towns of al-Ziyarah, Khirbet al-Naqus and al-Enkawi in the Ghab Plain area, west of Hama, without reports of casualties, the field sources added.
For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
