ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – The Lebanese Ministry of Energy announced yesterday, the opening of the Qatari and Egyptian gas supply lines to Lebanon through Egypt and Syria.
This came during a meeting between the Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water Walid Fayyad and his Qatari counterpart Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi, yesterday, Tuesday.
A statement by Fayyad’s media office said Jordan’s Aqaba region was chosen for the gasification of liquified natural gas from Qatar, and that the gas would be delivered to Lebanon via Syria.
This solution is in addition to the expected solution from Egyptian gas, which will be transported through Syria via the Arab line through the Swap process, according to the statement.
The Lebanese Minister noted that all of that would secure and raise the hours of electricity supply to the Lebanese from four hours to eight hours a day.
“Naturally, the gasification of Qatari gas in Aqaba needs Jordanian approval,” the statement noted.
Fayyad began discussions with his Jordanian counterpart in this context, describing them [discussions] as positive.
