Settlement process is almost finished in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, Syrian security forces ended the settlement process for hundreds of wanted people in Daraa city and its countryside except Busra al-Sham, Ma’arba town and few surrounding villages.

The last settlement center opened in Izra’ town, east of Daraa, yesterday, settled the status of the wanted people whose names were in the lists but did not undergo the settlement process in their own areas.

Busra al-Sham city, Ma’raba town and few surrounding areas are yet to have settlement process, local sources told North Press.

Government officers speak of a permanent center to be set up in Daraa city for those people who were not able to settle their status in their own areas, the sources said.

23 centers were opened by Syrian security officers in Daraa governorate where hundreds settled their status and handed over weapons. Large sums of money were paid in lieu of the missing weapons.

War monitors say the Russian-brokered settlement process in Daraa took away power from government forces and allowed Russia to control territories in Syria’s south border adjacent to Israel.

These steps come as a continuation of the agreement held in early September between the Central Committee and the government forces brokered by Russia.

On September 5, a number of Daraa’s notables and government forces, in the presence of a number of Russian officers, reached a ceasefire agreement, including handing over weapons and deploying governmental security points in the towns of Daraa governorate.

Daraa was subjected to a suffocating siege imposed by Iranian-backed factions and the government forces for more than two months. Finally, an agreement was reached between the parties to the conflict brokered by Russia on a ceasefire and the entry of government forces into the besieged neighborhoods.
