Syria’s Hasakah celebrates new hospital, promises to provide most medical services
TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, dozens of residents of Tel Tamr town, north of Hasakah, northeastern Syria, participated in the opening of the private Jiyan Hospital, the first of its kind in that area.
The hospital will provide medical services, including rooms for surgical operations.
The hospital provides medical services that include departments of general surgery, pediatrics, radiology and laboratory, gynecological, internal and cardiac.
“We decided to open the hospital as a result of the area’s lack of various general medical services. The residents used to travel long distances to cities such as Hasakah and Qamishli for treatment,” Ismail Osman, the hospital director, told North Press.
“We only need an orthopedic specialist now. We hope to get one in the near future,” Osman added.
The only Martyr Legarin Hospital in the town, which had been providing medical services to local residents over the past years, was turned into a health center to give first aid and provide medicines to the local population.
The opening of the new hospital was well welcomed by the residents, given the lack of medical centers that provide services in the town, which lies on the line of contact with the Turkish forces and the affiliated armed opposition factions.
“With the opening of the new hospital, I am now able to be treated here. It also saves me paying additional costs by going to hospitals in other cities,” said Kamal Amin, a resident of the town who used to go to Hasakah and Qamishli for treatment.
Tel Tamr sits on the front lines between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) – affiliated militias and government forces, and Turkish forces and their affiliated armed Syrian factions.
The Turkish army has been stationed on the outskirts of Tel Tamr at a length of 40 since 2019 after it took control over the border city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in late 2019.
