Government forces leave dead in Syria’s northwest
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Three civilians were killed and others wounded north of Latakia on the Syrian coast, as a result of targeting by Syrian government forces, opposition sources said on Monday.
The government forces, stationed in the al-Qal’a area, targeted a group of civilians who were collecting firewood from the forested areas near Naba’ al-Tuffahiya, north of Latakia, with a guided missile, the sources told North Press.
The government forces continued shelling the villages and towns of al-Fatira, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhn, Kansafra, Benin and Fleifel in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, with missiles and artillery shells, opposition military sources said.
Meanwhile, the al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room, which includes several factions, targeted the government forces’ sites near the areas of Kawkaba and al-Malaja, south of Idlib, a military source of the National Front for Liberation told North Press.
For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
