Turkish bombing of northeast Syria causes displacement of more families
DERIK, Syria (North Press) – During the past two days, Newroz camp, near the city of Derik, in the far northeastern Syria, has received new families who fled the areas that witnessed frequent Turkish bombing in the northern countryside of Hasakah.
On Thursday, the Newroz camp director, Dijla Muhammad, said that they had received 45 families, in total of 194 individuals, who fled the bombing in the Tel Tamr area, north of Hasakah.
Regarding the mechanism for accepting families, Mohammed pointed out that they are accepted according to document given to them by Tel Tamr town council.
With the new families, the number of families in Newroz camp has reached 790 families, in total of 3,986 individuals.
The IDPs, who fled their villages, are living in difficult humanitarian conditions in light of the insufficient assistance provided to them, which was limited to tents and mattresses, especially since they were unable to take their belongings with them due to the intensification of the bombing.
The Mercy Cole Organization also provided an emergency food basket, according to Nadim Omar, a Relations Official in Newroz camp.
Yesterday on Wednesday, the UNHCR started a sterilization campaign in Newroz camp, coinciding with the total lockdown imposed by the Autonomous Administration to limit the outbreak of the coronavirus.
