Syria demands UN to end Turkish presence in its territories
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the Permanent Representative of Syria to the United Nations, Bassam Sabbagh, called on the UN Security Council to end Turkey’s occupation of Syrian territory, considering that some countries are hindering resolving the crisis in Syria and achieving stability in it.
During a session of the UN Security Council, Sabbagh said, “the Turkish occupation continues its aggressive practices on the Syrian territories, and the UN Security Council must shoulder its responsibilities and end this occupation,” according to the official government news agency SANA.
“Damascus rejects any outside interference in the work of the Constitutional Committee, or attempts to impose artificial timetables and preconceived conclusions for its work,” he added.
The Syrian Representative conveyed his government’s vision on the necessity of ending “the illegal foreign military presence on Syrian territory, lifting Western coercive economic measures, and supporting Syria’s efforts to fight terrorism.”
It is worth mentioning that the Syrian government usually refers to the presence of Turkey and the United States as illegal, while it considers the presence of Russia and Iran legitimate because it was requested and supported by it.
Sabbagh believed that the settlements made by his government in Daraa is an evidence of its keenness on the security of the country and the safety of its citizens.
He pointed out that Syria’s efforts “collide with some people continuing to exploit the suffering of the citizens and use them to achieve inhumane goals that do not serve the interests of the Syrian people.”
