QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, a ministerial delegation of the Syrian government visited Jordan in order to hold joint meetings to discuss several issues including power, water, and transportation.
The Syrian ministerial delegation will include the ministers of power, water, agriculture, and transportation, the Kingdom of Jordan channel said.
For two days, they will hold meetings discussing transportation issues in the ministry of industry and trade.
Land Transport Regulatory Commission Director-General Tariq Habashneh said that the current week will witness meetings with ministers from the Syrian government in order to discuss dilemmas and problems that prevent the return of the movement of goods transport between the two countries.
“We are optimistic that very soon we will overcome the obstacles with Syria to open the borders and assure citizens that there are signs of the return of the movement of trucks and goods with Syria,” he added.
On August 4, crossing movement between Syria and Jordan returned to normal after cessation due to the security events in Daraa city, south Syria, informed sources told North Press.
Habashneh suggested “overcoming all difficulties between the two countries in order to return to smooth movement to Turkey and Europe,” considering that this matter is important for the interest of all.
On Thursday, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Miqdad met with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, in New York, USA, on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.
Last week, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces, Major General Yousef Ahmed Al-Hunaiti, received Syrian Defense Minister Ali Ayoub, who arrived in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on an officially unannounced visit.
The series of visits comes within the framework of re-floating the Syrian government on the Arab and international levels through an initiative by Jordan’s King Abdullah II handed over to the White House and presented to the US President Joe Biden.
The initiative includes reducing Washington’s sanctions imposed on Assad to serve Jordanian interests.
Jordan is witnessing many economic crises, and its officials believe that re-floating the Syrian government in the Arab world after it regained control over large areas of Syria with Russian-Iranian support could contribute to saving the economically engulfed Jordan.
On September 22, Jordanian Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, said that the Syrian people have suffered more than any other people in the world, and an American-Russian dialogue and a collective Arab role are necessary to solve the Syrian crisis.
“Approaches that have proven ineffective cannot be continued. We in the region are the ones who pay the price for the continuation of this crisis,” said Safadi in an interview with al-Sharq channel.
“It is unacceptable to have no collective Arab role, because Syria is an Arab country, and the Arab countries are the most affected by things that are going on in Syria,” he said.
In late August, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he had discussed with King of Jordan Abdullah II, who was on a visit to Moscow at the time, the normalization of the situation in Syria.
