Russian airstrikes target opposition sites in Syria’s Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, Russian warplanes bombed the Turkish-backed armed opposition Syrian opposition factions positions in Idlib, northwest Syria.
Opposition military sources told North Press that Russian warplanes targeted the vicinity of the towns of al-Bara and Kansafra, located in the al-Zawiya Mountain area in the southern countryside of Idlib, with high-explosive missiles.
The raids coincided with the intensive deployment of Turkish forces on the M4 Highway from the city of Ariha to the town of Muhambel in Idlib countryside, the sources added.
On Saturday, Russian warplanes bombed posts of Turkish-backed armed Syrian factions in the towns of al-Rowayha, al-Fu’ah, and Ein Shib, south and north of Idlib, with several airstrikes via missiles,
Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room, which includes Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, the National Front for Liberation, the Army of Glory (Jaish al-Izza), and other factions, sent on Sunday morning military reinforcements to its positions in Zawiya Mountain south of Idlib
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
In the past few days, Turkish and Russian media outlets circulated a news regarding an upcoming meeting between the Turkish and Russian presidents, during which Idlib will be one of its main issues.
