US forces shoot down drone near Global Coalition base in east Syria

WASHINGTON, US (North Press) – A fighter aircraft belonging to the Global Coalition shot down a drone in eastern Syria yesterday, Saturday, after the drone was thought to be a threat to Coalition forces, the US military said on Sunday.

Colonel Wayne Marotto, spokesman for the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, said: “Coalition warplanes succeeded in an aerial engagement with a drone, which resulted in the fall of the drone near the Green Village mission support site.”

According to the US military, neither the source of the drone nor the person piloting it has been determined.

Last month, the Pentagon said it was “deeply concerned” about attacks on American personnel in Syria and Iraq after diplomats and troops were targeted in three missile and drone attacks that wounded two American soldiers.
