SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Pressure from government officials and security officers, who have close relations with people accused of wasting public money, has caused corruption complaints to go unresolved in Suwayda, southern Syria.
Members of the Central Commission for Monitoring and Inspection – Suwayda Branch believe that there are no effective mechanisms that allow inspectors to decide on many corruption cases due to these pressures, which lead to the absence and weakness of the role of the government authority and exacerbate the looting of public money.
In the offices of the Oversight Branch, according to the same sources, complaints and cases of financial and administrative corruption of government employees have been accumulating, with administrators accused of wasting public money and committing administrative violations in appointments.
However, most of these cases were not transferred to the competent judiciary for reasons related to the incompleteness of some of them, while government officials and security agencies intervened to stop other complaints.
Suwayda’s people believe that the growing administrative and financial corruption, the Damascus government’s laxity in solving security and economic issues, and the absence of a judiciary role are all factors which have pushed people to resort to families and notables to make decisions and solve problems for them.
