Iran is close to develop a nuclear weapon: IAEA
WASHINGTON, US (North press) – Iran has accelerated its enrichment of uranium to developing a nuclear weapon, the UN International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Tuesday.
“Iran increased the purity to which it is refining uranium to 60% fissile purity from 20% in April in response to an explosion and power cut at its Natanz site that damaged output at the main underground enrichment plant there,” the IAEA announced in a report.
The process of developing a nuclear weapon requires an enrichment rate of up to 90% purity, according to specialized reports.
The IAEA added that Iran has started using advanced centrifuges to develop its nuclear program. The move is the latest of many by Iran breaching the restrictions imposed by the 2015 nuclear deal with the United States and its European.
According to the IAEA report, Iran has made significant progress in its development of enriched uranium metal, which enables it to make the core of a nuclear bomb at the present time.
