Syria’s northeast to participate in Constitutional Committee: head of civil organization
DERIK, Syria (North Press) – Thoughts and visions of people from north and east Syria will be found in the new Syrian constitution, said Farouq Haji Mustafa, head of the Berchav Organization for Development, Democracy and Media.
This took place in a symposium by Berchav Organization on Wednesday in the city of Derik, northeast Syria.
The organization, which held several symposia and did a study about the constitution and the Constitutional Committee, said that there will be a development in international approaches “with the attendance of representatives from north and east Syria participating in the Constitutional Committee, and the constitution will include ideas of the people of the area.”
The aim of these symposia is to push for reforming the general path of the constitutional process in order to represent all the communities in terms of the representation, ideas, and the concepts of discussion, Haji Mustafa said.
He pointed out that representatives of north and east will likely participate in the constitutional process “by holding symposia with the actual participation of communities and deliver the ideas and outcomes of these sessions to those countries that are part of the constitutional process.”
“One of the main conditions of the constitutional process, in order to have Syrian national ownership, is societal participation in this process,” he added.
“In order not to believe that the constitution relates to only 150 people; rather the constitution is related to all societal communities,” he elaborated.
Berchav Organization has previously held a symposium on July 8 in Derik over the constitution and the Constitutional Committee.
