Syria’s Daraa tribes call for siege break, government forces close Daraa al-Balad
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, the tribes of Daraa, southern Syria, issued a statement in which they called for breaking the siege on Daraa al-Balad, stop the military actions and release the detainees.
In addition, the release of the families of the detainees from the people on the farms adjacent to the city of Daraa, and the entry of humanitarian aid, including food, medicine and basic necessities.
The statement, issued by a meeting of tribes’ elders held in the region of Tafas in the western countryside of Daraa, called for stopping the expansion of Iranian militias and Hezbollah in the south under any name.
It also called on the “Russian guarantor” to abide by its commitments and to assume responsibility as a guarantor of the 2018 Southern Settlement Agreement.
A source who attended the meeting, told North Press that the statement came to reaffirm the governorate’s tribes’ support for Daraa al-Balad and the besieged neighborhoods.
He added that the attendees denounced the increasing military mobilization in the areas under any pretext, as well as the unjust siege that is being applied on the people of Daraa al-Balad and the rest of the besieged areas and the restriction of their livelihoods.
“We will spare no effort in seeking a solution that spares the blood of our sons, preserves their dignity, and achieves their security and safety, to be active in their societies and positive in their dealings,” the tribes’ notables said.
“We reject the constant threat of death, destruction, intrusion, and the threat of mass displacement, and we consider them aggressive acts that are not appropriate for any country to deal with its citizens and residents,” they added.
On the ground, the government forces’ bulldozers closed the Saraya military checkpoint that connects Daraa al-Balad and the besieged neighborhoods with the city center of Daraa, this evening.
An eyewitness said that the government forces closed the only road that connects Daraa al-Balad and the besieged neighborhoods with the rest of the governorate.
He added that the civilians in Daraa al-Balad and the besieged neighborhoods suffer from a very difficult living condition in light of the lack of all necessities of life, especially bread and foodstuffs, in addition to the lack of drinking water and hours of electricity supply.
While a member of the Central Committee told North Press that negotiations “are still continuing without achieving any progress in light of the intransigence of Iranian-backed parties.”
