Three members of Iranian factions killed in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, three members of the Iran-backed Liwa Fatemiyoun were killed in the vicinity of al-Mayadin city in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which is under Syrian government control, due to the explosion of an IED in their car.
Suleiman al-Ahmed (a pseudonym), a member of Liwa Fatemiyoun, told North Press that the car was carrying five members, who were checking the checkpoints in the vicinity of al-Mayadin. The car was targeted in the western parts of the city.
“Two members were immediately killed while the other lost his life half an hour after arriving at the hospital, as he was seriously wounded in the lower abdomen,” al-Ahmed added.
“The bodies were placed in the morgue of the hospital, and Liwa Fatemiyoun tightened security around it and at the entrance to the morgue.”
Liwa Fatemiyoun is an Iranian-backed, pro-Syrian government group made up mostly of Afghan Shia fighters recruited from among the Afghan refugee population in Iran.
The western and eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside, which are under the control of government forces, have been witnessing attacks on patrols and military points carried out by unknown persons believed to be ISIS sleeper cells on an almost daily basis.
