Two members of Syrian Fifth Corps wounded in Syria’s Palmyra
PALMYRA, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, two members of the Russian-backed Syrian government’s Fifth Corps were wounded in a mine explosion after a combing operation took place south of Palmyra, central Syria.
The Fifth Corps found a minefield 15 km south of Palmyra during a combing operation taking place in the area aimed at locating ISIS cells.
Fifth Corps member Ahmed Ali (a pseudonym) said that the field was found after two members walked into it and were seriously wounded.
They were transferred to Palmyra National Hospital and then via ambulances towards Homs Military Hospital, Ali added.
He stated that the field was not known before and was identified after the two members were wounded while passing through the field at dawn today, Wednesday.
Ali indicated that a security cordon was imposed to prevent anyone from passing through it until it is cleared of mines by specialized units to facilitate the sweeping operations that are taking place.
Last week, the government forces, accompanied by the Fifth Corps and with Russian support, launched a new combing campaign targeting the remnants of war and areas in the Syrian Desert in the vicinity of Palmyra where ISIS cells are active.
