Government forces intensely shell opposition sites in Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, Syrian government forces renewed their shelling of the fortifications of pro-Turkish opposition factions in the de-escalation zone, as part of the mutual shelling between the two sides in the area.
Government forces bombed the fortifications of the armed factions near the villages and towns of Sufuhn, al-Fatira, al-Ruwaiha, Benin, and Kansafra, located in the Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib, with artillery shells and rocket launchers, military sources in the opposition told North Press.
The armed factions’ sites in the towns of Kafr Noran, Kafr Ta’al and the city of Atarib, west of Aleppo, were also hit by mortar shelling from the positions of the government forces in the regiment 46 in the same area, according to the same sources.
The bombing coincided with intense flight of Russian warplanes and reconnaissance planes over the countryside of Idlib, Hama and Latakia, without recording any air strikes.
Last night, Syrian government forces bombed the villages and towns of Sufuhn, al-Fatira, Kafr Awed, Kansafra, and the outskirts of the town of al-Bara in the Zawiya Mountain region with heavy artillery and rocket launchers.
The military escalation comes in the de-escalation zone, between the Syrian government forces and the Turkish-backed opposition factions, despite the entry into force of the ceasefire agreement, which has entered its second year.
