Syrian government shells opposition in Idlib, Hama
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, Syrian government forces renewed their bombardment on locations of Turkish-backed armed opposition groups in the de-escalation zone in light of the mutual shelling between the two sides in the area.
The government forces bombed fortifications of the opposition groups near the villages and towns of Qarqour, al-Mashik, Zayzoun and al-Ziyara, in Ghab Plain area in the western countryside of Hama with artillery shells and rocket launchers, military sources of the opposition told North Press.
The opposition groups’ sites near the towns of Benin, Jabal al-Arba’in and al-Bara, south of Idlib, were also hit by mortar shelling from the positions of the neighboring government forces in the city of Ma’arat al-Nu’man, according to the same sources.
The bombing coincided with intense flight of Russian warplanes and drones over the countryside of Idlib, Hama and Latakia, without recording any air strike, the sources added.
This morning, Syrian government forces bombed the villages and towns of al-Fatira, Kafr Oweid, Kansafra, al-Bara, and Mantef in Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib with missiles and artillery shells.
The military escalation comes within the de-escalation zone between Syrian government forces and pro-Turkish opposition groups, despite the entry into force of the ceasefire agreement, which has entered its second year.
