Syria’s AANES, PYD demand Kurdistan region release detainees

ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – On Tuesday, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and northeast Syria’s leading Democratic Union Party (PYD) offices demanded the release of their diplomats, who have been detained for a week in the Erbil International Airport in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

This came in a statement read during a joint press conference held by the AANES and PYD in Sulaymaniyah.

The statement added that the security authorities of the Erbil International Airport arrested the representative of AANES in Erbil Jihad Hassan, along with PYD Foreign Relations Office members Mustafa Khalil and Mustafa Aziz.

The representatives were arrested on June 10th while heading to the airport to receive guests coming from abroad. There is no information regarding the reason behind their arrest nor about their fate, which raises concerns.

The two offices demanded the release of the detainees as soon as possible, and called on the KRG’s government, parliament, and political parties to take a side of these actions.
