Displacement waves in Syria’s Idlib escalate due to military operations
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, a mutual shelling between Syrian government forces and the armed opposition groups caused an escalation of displacement waves in the de-escalation zones in Idlib Governorate, northwest Syria.
The government forces bombed the fortifications of the opposition groups in the villages and towns of Benin, al-Neirab and Deir Sunbul south and east of Idlib with artillery shells and rocket launchers, military sources of the opposition told North Press.
In the evening, local activists documented the displacement of more than 15 families from Idlib countryside following the mutual military operations in the area.
During the past 48 hours, the number of displaced people reached 1,867 as a result of the recent military escalation in the villages and towns of Zawiya Mountain, according to a statistic announced by the Syrian Response Coordination Group.
The sources added that the government shelling resulted in widespread property destruction, without casualties reported.
In the same context, the al-Fath al-Mubin Operations Room, which includes several armed groups, bombed military gatherings of the government forces in Babila town in the southern countryside of Idlib.
