Fraud documented in electoral centers in Syria’s Aleppo
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, North Press Agency obtained exclusive footage documenting fraud in election centers in the city of Aleppo, north Syria.
Three candidates ran for the Syrian presidential elections; Mahmoud Marei, Abdullah Saloum Abdullah, and current president Bashar Assad.
In a video recording, an employee puts a check mark under the name of Assad on the ballot.
A North Press correspondent said that the ballot marked by the employee is given then to the voter to put in the polling box.
“Some voters voted more than once, especially university students and employees,” the correspondent added.
Some students said the colleges intentionally scheduled practical exams on the day of the elections “to force them to vote.”
Another video shows some employees receiving IDs via WhatsApp messenger and filling out ballots in their names.
A third video clip shows that there was no private room for voters to cast their votes confidentially in one of the centers, with voters forced to mark their candidate in full view of election officials and other voters.
On Wednesday, photos and videos published by North Press showed that election centers in Damascus and other government-held regions witnessed poor voter turnout.
