Syria’s Manbij farmers worry about their crops due to Turkish bombing
MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – Residents of Manbij region, northern Syria, fear their crops to be burnt due to the frequent bombardment on the region by the pro-Turkish armed opposition groups.
“Every shell fired raises our fear of burning our crops that we planted which we have been waiting for a long time to harvest them to secure the sustenance of our families,” said Othman Ali, from the village of al-Gat, north of Manbij.
Ali added that they are afraid to sleep in their houses near the frontlines, as the opposition groups randomly fire.
Talib al-Hassan, from the town of al-Hisan, northeast of Manbij, hopes that a permanent solution and a truce will be reached to keep the civilians away from the fire.
Although his village is 4 km away from the military contact lines, he is worried that his crop would burn and he will not be able to put it out because the crop is dry and fire could spread so quickly, as he said.
Al-Hassan demanded the Russian forces to pressure Turkey in order to stop its violation against civilians along the frontlines.
The Turkish-backed opposition groups occasionally target the sites of the Manbij Military council.
Yesterday, a shell fired by pro-Turkish opposition groups caused a fire in a wheat field in the town of al-Shuyukh Fawqani, west of Kobani.
