Turkish-backed groups burn crops in Syria’s Kobani

KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, a shell fired by pro-Turkish opposition groups caused a fire in a wheat field in the town of al-Shuyukh Fawqani, west of Kobani.

Ali Muho, co-chair of the municipality of al-Qenaya, west of Kobani, said that the cause of the fire was the fall of a mortar shell in the town, which led to the burning of 30 acres.

About 10 hectares have not been harvested yet, while 20 hectares were harvested by their owners a few days ago.

Muho added that the “Euphrates Shield” groups of the pro-Turkish opposition “deliberately burned crops by firing a mortar shell from the Jarablus area.”

The firefighting team in the town of al-Qenaya was able to extinguish the fire before it spread to other fields.

The fire is the second this season in Kobani and its countryside.

On May 19, 50 hectares of land planted with wheat were burned in the border village of Ziyarah, which was caused by Turkish forces, according to local sources.
